Making it into the C-suite is the pinnacle for ambitions Chief Data Officers. Operating at that level can come as a shock – suddenly, the picture is much, much bigger, the pace faster, and the challenges more aggressive. To position data as a critical enabler of the organisation’s purpose, a creator of value for shareholders, and an essential tool for decision-making requires more than just knowing what data is in the models, where it sits in the tech landscape and how it has been governed.

In this session, a CDO with a board-level position will explain how C-suite demands differ from management-level ones. They will provide insights from their lived experience and offer tips to all of those working in data on how to ensure they are seen as positive contributors to their company’s success.

Key learning points:

  • How the board really views data
  • The 5 questions you should expect to be asked
  • Why people skills matter as much as data skills

Investment for major data transformations is no longer straightforward. With higher borrowing costs for financing and competition from alternative programmes, data is no longer in the golden decade which saw its rapid growth from 2012 onwards. Instead, CDOs need a compelling investment case, stakeholders advocating on their behalf, clear line of sight on the ROI, and an acceptable timeline.

Panellists in this session have all been there, done that and won awards or recognition for it. They will share the inside track on how to get a major data programme over the line.

Key learning points:

  • What a successful programme pitch looks like
  • The 3 things you must include
  • And the 2 things that could trip you up

This is your chance to network with peers, exchange ideas, and continue building connections in a relaxed, collaborative environment.

Discussions

Each roundtable will focus on an expertly curated scenario designed to address a challenge facing data leadersChoose two tables based on the scenarios which most resonate with youThere will be two rotations, and each discussion will last 40 minutes

How should senior data leaders assess the world around them in order to decide on winning strategies based on business cycles, including which roles to take. These have a massive impact on the potential for success, and yet CDOs rarely discuss or reflect on them.

The reality for many CDOs is that their success depends on factors which are largely outside of their control. However, if given careful consideration, we can avoid pitfalls which many have charged into. In this session, Perry will share his insights and experiences into navigating in a down cycle.

For the first time, the 2025 edition of the DataIQ 100 captured fundamental data and intelligence on how data offices are structured, staffed and service their stakeholders. This evidence set offers critical insights into the way data offices are set up, from the ratio of staff to their operating model, from proximity to the C-suite to the level of data maturity.

In this session, David will unveil the insights gained from this data set and the models it offers to all CDOs considering the right size, shape and impact they should pursue. Plus, exclusively for delegates attending in person, they will gain access to the written report ahead of the DataIQ community.

Key learning points:

  • Ratios of data practitioners to organisation headcount
    Relationship between proximity to the
  • C-suite and key areas of focus
  • Importance of CDO tenure and data office maturity

Success as a CDO or CAIO is hard won. Meeting the shape-shifting challenges of any organisation is never easy. So pulling off the same feat in two or more different brands is remarkable. Panellists in this session, facilitated by David Reed, will share the approaches they have used to land programmes in host organisations multiple times.

Key learning points:

  • Why data is a horizontal sector, not a vertical one
  • Building your personal playbook and learning the right lessons
  • How to let go of the past, reset and deliver again

This session will recognise and reward the first cohort of students to have completed the DataIQ AFL. Course leader David Reed will welcome graduating students to the stage, present them with their certificates of completion, and invite them to reflect on the benefit and impact which the course has had on their leadership skills and career ambitions.

This is a great opportunity to take a break, reflect on the insights you have gained, and connect with fellow attendees.
