Describe your career to date

I started my career in the world of banking at Lloyds Banking Group, where I saw first-hand the meaningful impact analytics can have on people and have sat in data roles ever since.

I relished the opportunity to be involved with how an organisation like Lloyds leveraged data to map customer interactions, cross align product areas and provide insights to help the product teams improve various channel interactions. Having dipped my toe in various technical roles, I settled in the data pipeline and visualisation space, honing my craft with the support of internal and external data communities.

I kick-started my own website to give back to the community, writing blogs to spread the knowledge of different data tools. More recently, this passion to share expertise of products like Tableau landed me the honour of being named a Tableau Visionary (an accolade given to roughly 40 individuals globally), as well as reaching the final of IronViz, one of the largest data visualisation competitions worldwide.

In 2022, I moved over to Jones Lang LaSalle to join a world-class community of excellence with the opportunity to lead our EMEA enablement function, on learning, development, and global programmes; helping our analysts learn, share and grow together both in technical skills and industry knowledge.

With a new industry comes new challenges, it’s certainly opened my eyes to how technology can transform a colleague’s journey through a property by designing and defining the workplace experience, helping organisations reduce their environmental impact through optimisation and improved performance, and maximise client value by reducing costs and increasing productivity.

Tell us about the data and analytics resources you are responsible for

Being part of a centralised global programme, there are three main responsibilities of the team: solving common problems across the teams with new strategies and programs of work; providing our analysts with the best tools and techniques to improve performance; and empowering our teams to use the tools to better communicate data in a clear and consistent way.

We provide learning opportunities to over 150 data professionals, and I have the pleasure of supporting over 40 of those across the EMEA region. The culture and community we have built is why we attract some of the best talent worldwide.

One of my main focuses this year is being able to reduce our analysts’ time to production with their dashboards through building a one-stop-shop of sanitised dashboards. By creating a marketplace of BI products, covering everything from sustainability and environmental risks to occupancy planning and from financial performance to project management, we are helping our analysts build best-in-class BI products faster without a trade-off on quality or branding.

Tell us about any ambitions you have in terms of becoming a data leader

My ambitions lie with helping others become the best version of themselves. A lot of my own personal success is measured through facilitating the development of our analysts and providing them with opportunities to grow within the company and their personal brand. I strongly believe that the best way to prepare for the uncertain and ever-changing future of data is by investing in a culture of continuous development.

I love to learn and am fascinated by the power of data. My career goals involve combining the two to build connections between how and why we, as humans and organisations, do things. By helping organisations to unlock this, I believe we will be best placed to leverage actionable insights, to drive growth and realise the true value of data.
