Fabio Ardossi, partner, Reply

Describe your career to date

I have 15 years of experience in data analytics, automation, and AI, starting my career in Italy. In 2016, I founded Data Reply IT and within the first three years, we achieved rapid growth. In 2019, I took my journey overseas and established Data Reply UK. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and lockdown, our UK team has steadily grown to over 40 people serving a diverse client base in their search for innovative data and AI solutions.

In 2022, I assumed responsibility for a wider team covering UK&I, Benelux, and Nordics. Driven by my passion for creating successful data and AI consultancies, and developing passionate data engineers, data scientists, and data analysts, I approach each market and company with a genuine interest in serving their best interests through innovative and effective data technologies and solutions.

As I look at current challenges and how to best use data and advanced analytical techniques to solve them, my focus has shifted towards incorporating environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles into our work. The goal is to offer enterprises an effective data-driven roadmap, tools, and solutions to make a positive impact through our expertise in data and analytics.

What key skills or attributes do you consider have contributed to your success in this role?

I attribute much of my current success to having a well-rounded personality. As a partner in the Reply group, it’s crucial to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset and approach in everything I do. My passion for delivering excellence to my clients drives me each day, whether it’s through the implementation of new technologies and effective methodologies, or simply ensuring the high performance of my team. This is what motivates me to get up in the morning.

What level of data maturity do you typically encounter across your client base and what tends to hold this back?

The level of data maturity varies across industries and clients, but in general, most organisations are still in the early stages of their data journey. The main challenge that holds back data maturity is the lack of data governance and data culture, which are critical components in ensuring data quality, security, and compliance.

Data governance is the framework for managing and controlling data, while data culture is the shared values, beliefs, and behaviours around data.

Both are closely linked to data literacy, which is the ability of individuals and organisations to understand, use, and derive value from data. To achieve higher levels of data maturity, organisations must prioritise data literacy and work to create a data-driven culture that values and leverages data to make informed decisions.
