Ricardo Bion, director of data science, Airbnb
What has been your path to power?
Since 2018, Bion has been director of data science at Airbnb after working as a data scientist and data science manager when he joined in 2014. His role includes development and research regarding experimentation, machine learning, econometrics, tooling and analytics to heighten business offerings and customer efficiencies. Bion leads a team of 80+ data scientists across Airbnb’s vacation rentals, hotels and experiences businesses.
Bion worked as a linguistic consultant for Microsoft between 2007-2008 and as a consultant for the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation in Senegal in 2013. Research has been a big part of Bion’s career with stints as visiting researcher or research fellow in The Netherlands, Italy and Japan.
