Deni Boncheva, Global Head of Data and Analytics, Volvo Cars

Describe your career to date

I built my career in data tech from the ground up. I have experience of working in media, publishing, consumer goods and most recently joined the automotive industry. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to grow and learn from mentors and colleagues along the way. I wouldn’t be able to be where I am today without their direction, feedback and genuine support. I’m looking forward to mentoring the next generation of power players in data and analytics.

Data transformation is a hot topic today and I’m proud of my ability to understand how large corporations work and navigate the needed channels to engage stakeholders and embed data processes to drive collaboration across functions and improve existing processes.

What stage has your organisation reached on its data maturity journey?

Similar to other automotive companies, we have embarked on a data journey with an open mind and strong ambitions. And, as such, there is a strong desire to transform the legacy environment to help us achieve the growth and strategic objectives we have set. As such, data plays a significant role in the transformational journey and I am proud to work for a company that sees the value.

Tell us about the data and analytics resources you are responsible for

I am responsible for the central enterprise data and analytics team, which supports the wider business with their data ambitions and plans. We are working collaboratively with functional heads to help accelerate the data transformation cross functionally.

What challenges do you see for data in the year ahead that will have an impact on your organisation and on the industry as a whole?

The cutting edge of our industry is leading the way in data, AI and related software and hardware. In my organisation, data is a critical enabler of the business plan and will be fundamental to capture value across functions.
