The topic of generative AI has been constantly discussed in the DataIQ community in 2023 and DataIQ has created a generative AI assessment questionnaire to help data leaders on their journey to an AI-assisted future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW226904984 BCX8\">Those that are looking into how AI can improve their business are poised to reap the benefits and early rewards of the latest disruptive technology;\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW226904984 BCX8\">whereas<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW226904984 BCX8\">\u00a0those more hesitant to use \u2013 or sometimes banned outright from using \u2013 the latest AI tools are going to find themselves having to play catch-up to the field in the not-too-distant future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong style=\"font-weight: 600;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Thoughts on AI from the industry<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In\u00a0September\u00a0the team at\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: 600;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.multiverse.io\/en-GB\/preparing-for-the-ai-revolution?&amp;utm_source=referral&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=dat\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Multiverse released a report<\/a>\u00a0built from the results of responses from 1,000 business leaders across the UK and USA and the findings\u00a0indicated\u00a0that AI tools need to be embraced\u00a0immediately.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe results from business leaders show a big divergence between those running towards AI and those running away,\u201d said Ujjwal Singh, Chief Product and Technology Officer, Multiverse. \u201cThe advocates of AI are getting their workforces ready, putting policies in place and training up their teams. They are looking at how to cut staff time on manual jobs and creating prompt libraries for staff to access to create efficiencies across their business.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This sentiment is backed up by the fact that more than two-thirds of respondents are planning targeted investment in AI,\u00a0data\u00a0and software engineering skills programmes. Furthermore, the findings of the report highlight that skills transformation is a prime focus of business leaders to lay the foundations for future business success: Two-thirds (69%) of business leaders believe that their organisation will need\u00a0different workforce\u00a0skills to stay competitive by 2030.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The report also shows that:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">AI, tech, and data skills are of highest concern: Leaders named AI as their most significant skill gap currently, while data analytics and software engineering were among the top skill gaps most likely to persist into 2030.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Leaders consider AI skills training a high priority: 83% reported that their organisation is moving quickly to implement workforce skills development on AI.<\/li>\n<li>They strongly believe AI will create business value: Over two-thirds of leaders say AI will improve productivity and customer experience (69%) and create more informed business strategies (68%).<\/li>\n<li>The cost of doing nothing is high: Half of leaders believe a lack of AI skills will negatively\u00a0impact\u00a0revenue growth (50%), productivity (50%) and profitability (49%).<\/li>\n<li>Skills development is at the top of leaders\u2019 lists: When asked about their future workforce strategy, 76% of leaders said they were likely to invest in upskilling existing employees, while 73% are likely to reskill employees into new roles.<\/li>\n<li>Budgets are increasing: Over three-quarters of leaders (77%) say they plan to increase training and development budgets by 2030.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For those less certain on their data journey, which includes many sceptics, there are drawbacks to waiting. It has been shown\u00a0time and again\u00a0throughout business history that those most confident in embracing disruptive technologies\u00a0emerge\u00a0with better businesses \u2013 and AI is one of those times.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThere are businesses who are prioritising risk mitigation, and risk being caught behind,\u201d said Singh. \u201cThey want to \u2018wait and see\u2019 or in some cases are banning tools such as ChatGPT, rather than embracing them. The prospect feels daunting: but the real risk of AI is missing the opportunity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The question then becomes: How can data leaders instil confidence in new AI capabilities for sceptical business decision-makers? It is undeniable that there has been exponential growth for AI tools \u2013 and this is showing no sign of stopping in 2024 \u2013 therefore, education is the key. People need to know how and why these new tools will\u00a0benefit\u00a0their daily lives and how it is relevant to their work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Singh continued: \u201cWe made\u00a0an early decision\u00a0to introduce an AI module into every apprenticeship. AI literacy is now a vital foundational skill\u00a0\u2013 team members\u00a0will struggle to do\u00a0their\u00a0job well unless\u00a0they\u00a0have capability in AI. That module is grounded in practical, applied use of AI and covers the skills to use the tools we have today, but also the skills to adapt to the tools\u00a0we\u00a0will\u00a0have in\u00a0the\u00a0future. Education also enables us to make AI more\u00a0inclusive and\u00a0offer the\u00a0training\u00a0\u2013\u00a0and the career boost it unlocks\u00a0\u2013\u00a0to everyone in society.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">There are multiple considerations when it comes to setting out on a generative AI journey \u2013 budget, training, infrastructure, literacy, culture and more \u2013 but any delay in starting this journey looks set to only make these considerations more complex and unyielding.
