Two leading feline organisations have joined forces to research how digital technology, including artificial intelligence and data analytics, can be harnessed to promote animal welfare.
"Intelligent" petcare platform Felcana - launched by veterinarians to provide insights into specific calorie expenditure, rest and activity patterns of indoor, rescue cats - will work with cult café Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium to uncover new data about indoor cats’ behaviour, rest and activity patterns.
Established in 2016, Felcana combines AI, data analytics and veterinary expertise to provide users with on-demand veterinary advice and critical insights into their pet’s well-being.
Its digital pet health monitoring products and services are designed to help owners look after their pet’s health and provide vets, nurses and pet health professionals with the data they need.
Lady Dinah’s was founded in 2014, and is home to over 12 rescue cats. With more than 250,000 followers across its social platforms, it aims to promote the best in at-home petcare techniques and products through its brand and social channels.
It will use Felcana’s products and services to streamline its existing data collection activities and log its cats’ health and environmental information in one organised platform. Felcana will work with Lady
Dinah’s to continue validating its calorie expenditure algorithm and accelerate specific-behaviour algorithms.
Felcana recently launched a new fundraising campaign on leading equity crowdfunding platform, Seedrs, to raise £80,000. Fresh investment will support Felcana in commercialising its digital petcare platform and in driving revenue through new product sales and commission.
Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium founder Lauren Pears said: "The study has huge potential to identify opportunities we can action to improve the provision of care to indoor cats."
