Bhavik has worked in finance, marketing, and on the shop floor, which has provided him invaluable insight into cross-functional working. To build on communicative skills, Bhavik puts himself in uncomfortable situations, as “you have to talk and be uncomfortable in order to grow”.
“What has been most helpful in my journey is that I have first-hand experience in being a client of the data and analytics function, enabling me to empathise and appreciate commercial business use and need for robust data and analytics.”
Chief data officer
The Open University
In 2019, David became the first CDO for The Open University. His career began with a graduate scheme at Anglian Water, before moving into telecoms, then banking at Santander UK. In his position as an accountant, David gained
experience in analytics and data before becoming CDO for Santander UK.
“I have often described the role of the CDO as that of chief door opener. The data leader’s role is one of connections, knowing which door to open, why it needs opening and how to open it.”
Chief Analytics and Insight
Barilla
Lyndsay had an atypical route into data, starting off as a history graduate from the University of Birmingham before landing a job as a copywriter and SEO analyst, opening up the world of data analysis. After a global analytics role at Nestlé, Lyndsay is now the Chief Analytics and Insight Officer at Barilla.
“With more data, an ever-changing landscape in tech, and law and consumer concern relating to the use of data growing, organisations need to be building strong data ethics and privacy workflows and guidelines.”
