6. Kinnari Ladha, chief data officer, IAG Loyalty

What has been your path to power?


It’s not too surprising I fell into this industry. From an early age, I have always been bit of a numbers geek. Fresh out of university, I began my corporate journey as a hands on practitioner coding in various languages.  Over the course of the last 20 years I have progressed through the ranks, undertaking various senior leadership roles from managing analytic strategies, leading transformation and driving delivery across a range of industries globally, both consultancy and client side. 

 

Today I am proud to be recognised as an industry leader fulfilling my role as chief data officer for IAG Loyalty, owners of one of the world’s leading travel rewards currencies (Avios).  My responsibility is to lead, innovate and embed a data-driven strategy across the core products and services we offer for our global partners and customers.

What impact has the pandemic had on the role of data in your company/organisation?

 

While the fortunate few have seen growth as a result of COVID-19 pandemic, organisations within the travel sector have been hit devastatingly hard. A combination of external factors causing disruption and historical data no longer proving to be reliable source of insight to predict the future meant we needed to act and think differently.

 

We have exploited the use of external and open source data. Overlaying this with our existing data has helped provide richer insights into economic indicators and understand consumer behaviour, sentiment and demand enabling our business to make accurate forecasts and scenario planning for the future.

 

As digital transformation took an aggressive hold of our business, we have seen data became critical when it comes to making decisions. We have been able to deliver quick positive outcomes through streamlining processes, harnessing data and technology to shape entirely new ways of doing business and uniting every part of the enterprise with a common purpose.
