Daniel Bos, Senior Director of Data, Analytics and AI, Just Eat Takeaway.com

Describe your career to date

My experience was built in startups, which developed into full scale-ups and corporate structures. This gave me solid experience in infusing decision making and using data within each stage of a company, which led me to Coolblue; the leading online retailer in continental Europe.

My current role is Director of Data and Analytics for Just Eat Takeaway.com; the world’s largest food delivery company outside of China. My focus there is driving innovation at the intersection of people, technology, and business impact. I also strive to build a data-driven culture to spark creativity and enhance decision-making.

I am passionate about developing talent and fostering a culture of integrity and autonomy, and I am also immensely proud to represent data and analytics at the top leadership table, facilitating a data-centric approach to fuel our ongoing success and growth.

For me, every day brings a fresh challenge, a new learning opportunity, and a chance to further revolutionise our industry.

Data literacy is a key enabler of the value and impact from data. How are you approaching this within your organisation?

Just Eat Takeaway.com places a paramount emphasis on data literacy, recognising its pivotal role in driving business insights and fostering a culture of informed decision-making. Central to this commitment is the company’s robust data maturity assessment framework, which systematically evaluates the organisation’s data capabilities, pinpointing areas of strength and highlighting opportunities for enhancement.

Beyond the technical aspect, Just Eat Takeaway.com invests heavily in training programmes that hone both hard and soft skills. A notable component of this training regimen is the storytelling module, designed to empower employees to communicate complex data insights in a compelling and comprehensible manner. This approach ensures that data is not just understood but effectively relayed and acted upon.

Furthermore, the company continually updates its training modules to reflect the latest in data best practices, ensuring that its workforce remains at the forefront of data proficiency. With a holistic approach that combines rigorous assessments with comprehensive training, Just Eat Takeaway.com stands as a beacon of data literacy excellence in the industry.

How are you preparing your organisation for AI adoption and change management?

By transitioning to a unified source of truth and implementing rigorous data contracts, the company is setting the foundation for a more streamlined and efficient AI-driven approach. This groundwork is instrumental in facilitating the seamless integration of AI tools and models.

Moreover, in our quest for innovation, we are delving deep into the realm of large language models (LLMs). Through rigorous experimentation with LLMs, we aim to enhance customer experiences, streamline operations, and potentially revolutionise the way users interact with our platform.
