Ismail Rasool is the Chief Data Officer and an Executive at Discovery Health, where he leads a multidisciplinary team of doctors, actuaries, statisticians, data scientists, developers, and business intelligence specialists. Together, they drive the analytics, intelligence, big data, and business solutions that underpin the operations of South Africa’s largest private health insurer, supporting clinical risk management, operational excellence, and international markets.
He began his career at Discovery Health as a Healthcare Risk Analyst in the actuarial and risk intelligence unit, laying the analytical and strategic foundations that continue to define his leadership today.

Before assuming the role of Chief Data Officer, Ismail served as General Manager of Risk Management from 2009, reporting directly to the CEO. In that role, he provided strategic direction across key areas of healthcare risk funding (covering hospitalisation, medicines, and professional expenditure) and was instrumental in developing hospital contracting and next-generation risk-sharing models.
