Jordan Morrow, Senior Vice President of Data and AI Transformation, AgileOne

Describe your career to date

I have had a great and wonderful career, where I have had great people and organizations support me at times. I have also experienced failure, which can be something to propel you. I have been in the data and analytics space for years and lucky enough to help pioneer and invent the entire field of data literacy. This field of data literacy has taken me to different parts of the world, I do not know if I ever thought that would be the case.

I am a public speaker, a published author of three books, and getting my fourth book finalized. I love the world of data and analytics, and I hope to be able to continue to share my thoughts, knowledge, and help my current company, AgileOne, succeed with data and artificial intelligence (AI) transformation.

What challenges do you see for data in the year ahead that will have an impact on you and on the industry as a whole?

I think one challenge is for organizations to slow down and really work to figure out how to get value and success out of data, analytics, and AI. A challenge is companies want to utilize AI, but they may not be ready for it, but that may not slow them down; jumping onto the bandwagon is not the answer; a targeted, strategic approach is.

Another challenge is the speed at which AI may be going. We need to ensure we are mitigating risks and doing things right. Finally, a lack of understanding or buy-in to the realities of data, analytics, and AI work is a challenge; you cannot just buy tools and hope for success.

How do you see data literacy developing across a) your network and b) the data industry generally?

I think data literacy has power when done appropriately. Second, you cannot just blame non-data professionals for your lack of data and analytics success. Instead, use data and AI literacy to empower your workforce and do it with a targeted strategy, have decision making and storytelling a part of it, do not forget culture, and use good change management.

How do you see the industry preparing for AI adoption and change management?

I think there needs to be a shift across industries for AI and change management. It may have been that companies in the past jumped at new tools and technologies, but then they do not get a good return or value out of it.

Instead, they should take a more reflective approach and understand their current state and how to really bring in these things. Change management needs to be a bigger part of the data, analytics, and AI space.
