Describe your career to date

In my current role, I am responsible for leading Brit’s artificial intelligence (AI), data modernisation strategy, and leveraging data science and analytics capabilities to support our digital vision and enhance how Brit underwrites and services claims. Furthermore, I am responsible for our centralised team of data expertise, including Data Science and Analytics, Business Insights, Data Engineering, Data Governance, and Management and Data Product Management. I have over 23 years of technology, data, and business transformation experience, with strong expertise in the critical role of data within the insurance industry. I have diverse industry experience across financial services, healthcare, retail, and manufacturing sectors, spanning EMEA, North America, and APAC regions. Prior to Brit Insurance, I was with the Vitality UK Group for almost ten years, where I held the role of Chief Data Officer. Before Vitality UK, I also held various roles with data consulting company Business & Decision (now Sopra Steria) in the UK, Al Tayer Group in Dubai, Radiologix Inc in the US, and Citicorp and British American Tobacco companies in India.

How are you developing the data literacy of your organisation, including the skills of your data teams and of your business stakeholders?

We are progressing data literacy as an integral part of our data modernisation strategy. Data teams can use a variety of options – Coursera, internal training sessions on technology, data concepts, or cloud concepts. We have monthly data knowledge sharing sessions across the data teams to cross-pollenate knowledge on variety of topics – AI, Data Science, PowerBI, Data Engineering, Data Governance, and Master Data Management. The business teams are also taken through learning pathways on data governance roles, self-service use of data and adoption of AI and data science models.

How are you preparing your organisation for AI adoption and change management?

We are progressing AI as a strategic initiative to be leveraged across the organisation to drive acceleration and efficiencies. Our AI strategy includes the articulation of AI vision statement closely aligned to the business strategy and focus areas. The realisation of the AI vision is via prioritised use cases, right skills and roles development, departmental adoption and capability development, and increased focus on privacy, ethics, and cyber security.
