Karthic Bala, EVP and Chief Data Officer, Condé Nast

What has been your path to power? 

Bala has been a stalwart of data analytics for the last two decades and was the director of Viacom for more than eight years where he led the business intelligence and data warehousing department generating more than $5 B in revenue before moving to Everyday Health in 2010. During his tenure at Everyday Health, Bala became president in 2012 and implemented real-time data-warehousing using latest big-data technologies that led to processing power increasing by more than 1,000%.

In 2015 Bala joined Condé Nast as chief data officer where his work included the acquisition of Citizen Net to provide AI-driven social media marketing, and Lighthouse Labs to provide AI-driven performance marketing solutions. At Condé Nast Bala built and led a team of more than 300 technologists, data engineers, predictive modelers, data scientists, qualitative/quantitative researchers, business intelligence professionals and more to generate more than $150 million in annual data-product revenue and supported over $1.5 billion in revenue.
