Klitos Georgiou, Group Chief Data and Analytics Officer, Calculus Analytics

Describe your career to date

I am Group Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Calculus Analytics, a company that provides comprehensive services at the forefront of the analytics sector, where cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) drive our success. With experience spanning over two decades, I have established myself as a prominent figure in the domains of Risk Management, Data Management, and Advanced Analytics and AI. My journey as an Executive Member in esteemed financial organisations, including Citigroup (EMEA London), World Bank Group and IFC Advisory Services, Experian, and Piraeus Bank Group, extended across diverse jurisdictions in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Throughout this remarkable career, I became the driving force within organisations, emphasising the pivotal importance and inherent value of data. Specifically, during my seven years’ tenure in World Bank Group and IFC Advisory for Middle East and Central Asia, I had the privilege of developing and leading the first Analytics Team, cultivating a culture of data-driven innovation and strategic decision-making. I founded my own data analytics company, strongly believing in my vision to help companies drive transformation utilising the value of data analytics and developing new data solutions and services to overcome complex issues.

What challenges do you see for data in the year ahead that will have an impact on your clients and on the industry as a whole?

There are and there will be for the years ahead several challenges in the field of data analytics.

Data quality: The fundamental challenge in data analytics is to ensure the quality of data. Maintaining the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of data impacts the reliability of insights and decision-making processes.

Data integration: Clients frequently struggle with relevant data being dispersed across multiple systems, making it challenging to derive meaningful insights.

Scalability: As the volume, velocity, and variety of data continue to grow, clients need analytics solutions that can efficiently process large and complex data sets within reasonable time frames.

Skills gap: The demand for skilled data analysts, data scientists, and other analytics professionals continues to exceed supply.

How are you developing the data literacy of a) your own organisation and b) your clients?

In our organisation, we believe in our people and invest in each one’s development. We tailor personalised training programmes in close collaboration with each employee, considering various aspects of competence including knowledge, aptitude, skills, motivation, and attitude. These customised programmes typically involve seminars and online courses aimed at deepening employees’ comprehension of data concepts, tools, and methodologies. Furthermore, we encourage continuous learning by providing access to resources such as papers detailing state-of-the-art methodologies. On a regular basis, we engage in discussions with our clients to update them on the latest best practices and to gain insights into their specific circumstances, enabling us to provide tailored recommendations on effectively leveraging data within their organisations. Upon request, we develop customised training sessions and hands-on workshops to meet their unique needs.

How are you preparing your organisation and your clients for AI adoption and change management?

Some of the initiatives we implement to facilitate AI adoption and change management are the following:

• We conduct educational sessions within our organisation to ensure everyone grasps AI’s potential and its impact across industries. These sessions comprise seminars, webinars, and workshops, covering AI technologies, applications, and benefits.

• We provide consulting to assist clients in AI adoption. This includes assessing their capabilities, identifying improvement areas, and creating an AI implementation roadmap. We offer strategic advice on AI solution selection, change management, and addressing challenges.

• We collaborate with AI experts, technology vendors, and industry partners to stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in AI. This allows us to offer cutting-edge solutions and best practices to our organisation and clients.

• We provide ongoing support and assistance to clients throughout their AI adoption journey.
