Lauren Sager Weinstein, Chief Data Officer, Transport for London

I have always had an interest in data and technology, and I come from a line of engineers on both sides of my family tree. I am passionate about helping people in cities flourish, so my training has been focused on public policy and management, and my leadership in data caps a history of working across the public sector in a variety of roles on both sides of the Atlantic.

I worked for the City of Los Angeles, shaping the development of neighbourhoods and sparking a focus on transport. After a master’s degree in public policy, I had the opportunity to work for the newly created Transport for London (TfL), working in a variety of roles gravitating towards tech and data. I realised that the data from our systems is a powerful tool for us to better plan and run our transport network, so as TfL’s first Chief Data Officer, I created our data function from scratch. I am immensely proud of my contribution to launching groundbreaking Contactless Payment on TfL, which has transformed how our customers pay for travel.
