Her career has been built on leading large-scale digital and technology transformations that simplify complex landscapes, unlock growth, and deliver meaningful business impact. She operates at the intersection of strategy and execution, ensuring that technology not only enables but accelerates business outcomes.

These programmes have generated hundreds of millions in savings while strengthening operational resilience and enhancing customer experience.

Recognised as one of South Africa’s top IT leaders, Nicole is defined by her commitment to people as much as by her technical expertise. Her philosophy is that technology must always serve a higher purpose: enabling customers to live better, empowering associates to succeed, and positioning the business to compete with confidence in an evolving retail landscape.

DataIQ asked: “How do you see the role of the data leader evolving over the next 12-24 months?”

“I see the role of the data leader becoming central to business transformation over the next 12–24 months. The focus is moving from governance and reporting to building a truly data-centric architecture that connects systems, ensures interoperability, and positions data as a core enterprise asset.

“A key responsibility will be enabling the foundational layer for AI. Without trusted, structured, and governed data, AI cannot scale or deliver sustainable value. Data leaders will need to act as architects who ensure that high-quality data powers advanced analytics and AI-driven solutions that unlock efficiency, productivity, and better customer outcomes.

“Equally, the role is about embedding a culture of data-led decision-making across the organisation. This requires not only providing insights but also shaping business behaviours so that strategic and operational choices are consistently grounded in data. In doing so, the data leader becomes a true driver of growth and competitive advantage.”
