Niresh Rajah, Group Chief Data Officer, Danske Bank

Describe your career to date

 

I am an executive leader in Financial Services and Consulting with 20 years of experience focused on data, digital, regulation, automation, innovation and transformation. Currently, I am the Group Chief Data Officer at Danske Bank, and I am responsible for the Data and Analytics team. My role also covers data strategy, data management, data science and advanced analytics (including artificial intelligence), data platform (including data engineering) and data programmes. In this role, I am accountable for one of the largest data and analytics transformations in the Nordics through the development of Data Driven Danske – the data transformation aligned to Danske’s Forward 28 strategy. 

Prior to joining Danse Bank, I spent 12 years at Barclays and Lloyds Bank. I led a number of capabilities as Deputy Chief Data Officer covering regulatory change developments, regulatory change execution, the Chief Data Office (data management and governance), data driven solutions (data analytics, and data science), automation of controls, and the Reg-Tech capability (Innovation Hub). I also spent time in Management Consulting with Deloitte and Ernst & Young.

Data literacy is a key enabler of the value and impact from data. How are you approaching this within your organisation?

 

Data literacy is a fundamental aspect of our work. We are developing a Data Academy to drive data literacy for the organisation. We are also developing a cross-skilling programme for the organisation.

Have you set out a vision for data? If so, what is it aiming for and does it embrace the whole organisation or just the data function?

I have set out a vision for Data Driven Danske – our vision of a data driven organisation. By 2028, we envision Danske Bank becoming a fully data-driven financial institution seamlessly using data in every decision, customer interaction and internal process to drive business value. To support this vision, our Data and Analytics Transformation Programme will deliver incremental capability development and tangible benefits over the next five years.
