Praveen Tomar is Head of Data Automation (Data and AI) at Ofgem, where he leads digital and public service transformation through automation, data and cloud-first technologies. With more than 23 years’ experience spanning process consulting, IT transformation, and intelligent automation, he brings deep technical expertise alongside strategic leadership within the UK Civil Service. Throughout his career, he has combined operational rigour with strategic foresight, focusing on sustainable, data-driven reform that strengthens public services.
At Ofgem, Praveen heads a specialist team focused on process digitisation and the responsible application of data and AI to improve regulatory delivery and outcomes across the UK energy sector. His work supports the development of a more coherent data ecosystem, aligning automation initiatives with Ofgem’s broader mission while maintaining a strong emphasis on ethics, human-centred design, and public value.
Previously, as Centre of Excellence Technical Lead for Digital Transformation and Automation at the Office for National Statistics, he shaped and delivered large-scale automation and digital strategy programmes across government. He advised senior stakeholders on efficiency reform, low-code adoption and cloud-enabled operating models, while leading multidisciplinary teams to execute complex engagements to time and quality standards.
A Six Sigma Black Belt, Praveen has led numerous process optimisation initiatives using lean and re-engineering methodologies, alongside hands-on expertise in RPA, AI, API integration, and intelligent automation platforms. He has authored publications on low-code digital automation and serves as an Advisory Board Member at The CXO Circle.
