“The most critical traits today are strategic clarity, systems thinking, and the ability to influence across cross‑functional teams. Effective leaders translate complex technology into business outcomes and build a culture that accelerates adoption.
“At American, strategic clarity and a collaborative leadership approach have been especially critical, enabling alignment across commercial, operations, and technology groups for connected data connected enterprise, and strengthening our talent pipeline to solve the hardest data and AI challenges.”
Reflecting on your career, what is one non-traditional piece of advice (outside of technical skills) you would give to an aspiring data or AI leader aiming for the C-suite?
“Build trust and credibility. Be the translator who turns ambiguity into a clear plan. Treat ambiguity as an opportunity to lead, not a gap to fill.
“The most effective data and AI leaders blend technical credibility with human connection, because transformation succeeds when people trust you enough to change with you.”
