Samir Patel is Head of Data, Group IM&T at BAE Systems, where he leads enterprise data strategy across a complex, global defence organisation. With nearly three decades at BAE, his career reflects sustained progression from technical analytics roles to senior information management leadership, underpinned by deep institutional knowledge and delivery experience.
A regular attendee to DataIQ events, masterclasses, and accelerators, Samir is highly active in the DataIQ community and wider industry conversations.
Samir’s early career was rooted in hands-on analytics, progressing from analyst to principal consultant and programme manager, building expertise across defence and maritime domains.
As Head of Data since 2020, Samir has overseen the development of data analytics and data management capabilities aligned to group-wide priorities. His remit spans governance, architecture and insight, ensuring data is managed as a strategic asset across business units and shared services. He works closely with technology and business leaders to embed stronger data foundations capable of supporting operational performance and long-term transformation.
Previously, as Information Management Leader, he played a central role in shaping information strategy and strengthening enterprise data practices. Earlier roles included Business Intelligence Lead for Shared Services and a series of leadership positions within CORDA, BAE Systems’ consulting arm, covering service delivery, consulting and business development.
