Sian McHenry is Head of Data Governance at Nationwide Building Society, where she leads the organisation’s approach to data governance, standards and control. With extensive experience across financial services, credit rating and global banking, she brings a disciplined, regulatory-aware perspective to managing data as a critical enterprise asset.
Sian is an active part of the DataIQ community and conversations, joining in with discussions about data literacy and culture, and attending accelerator events and the World Congress in 2025.
Since joining Nationwide, Sian has been responsible for strengthening governance frameworks and embedding robust data management practices across the business. Her work includes leveraging platforms to enhance transparency, accountability and consistency in data ownership and stewardship. She focuses on ensuring that governance supports better decision-making and risk management across the organisation.
Prior to Nationwide, at Lloyds Banking Group, Sian progressed to Head of Business Data Modelling where she led teams responsible for data modelling and governance capabilities, supporting complex transformation and regulatory initiatives. Earlier in her career, she held senior roles at J.P. Morgan, overseeing international operational risk and controls reporting across EMEA and APAC, and at Standard & Poor’s, managing structured finance data across multiple asset classes and regions.
Sian has combined technical expertise with operational rigour, ensuring data quality and reporting integrity in highly regulated environments. Her career reflects a consistent commitment to strengthening governance frameworks while enabling organisations to use data with confidence and control.
