Srikanth Doraiswamy, Chief Data and Analytics Officer, City National Bank

Describe your career to date

I have over 20 years of data experience including successfully launching industry-leading data organizations as an inaugural CDAO at multiple Financial Services firms. I am a transformational data and analytics leader with expertise in modern cloud, data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. My experience spans across data strategy, governance, incubating and scaling innovation, building highly engaged teams, driving business value and transformation by creating differentiated technology and data platforms.

How are you developing the data literacy of your organization, including the skills of your data teams and of your business stakeholders?

Data literacy is a foundation that can unlock tremendous value. It is important to recognize that people must play different roles across the data supply chain to effectively manage data as an asset; not everyone needs to become a data engineer or a data scientist. Our approach has been to define the spectrum of roles that colleagues play from data creators to data consumers and create forums and training opportunities for them to learn essential skills for their roles and understand the impact they can have.

What role do you play in building and delivering conventional artificial intelligence solutions, including machine learning models? Are you also involved in your organization’s adoption of generative AI?

We have a small but impactful data science team that has been instrumental in creating and deploying machine learning models to drive growth and efficiency. I work with business and functional leaders across the firm to help identify and promote opportunities to apply machine learning. We are exploring the use of generative AI (genAI), but have not deployed it in production use cases.

How are you preparing your organization for AI adoption and change management?

AI is going to have a profound impact on all businesses. In this early stage of AI adoption, it is important to establish proof-points that deliver tangible business value to illustrate the art of the possible. We have delivered some tremendously successful use cases with a small budget that’s highlighting the importance of foundational horizontal capabilities in this space, instead of investing in expensive and narrow point solutions.
