Tripti Sethi, Executive, NA Data and AI Lead, Avanade

Describe your career to date

I have over 18 years of experience in analytics, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and consulting across domains and industries. My expertise is using data and AI to help organizations achieve business outcomes as part of their digital journeys.

I am currently an Executive at Avanade leading the North America Data and AI Solution Area – a $300 million portfolio and the fastest growing business at Avanade. I work in close partnership with the regional leadership teams and am responsible for financial and non-financial performance metrics, including sales, revenue, project delivery, client satisfaction, and specialized skill and capability development. I help shape the requirements for solution offerings, in particular pivoting our business to more generative (genAI), AI, IoT, industry, and automation led offerings and solutions.

Prior to this, I led Avanade’s Azure Center of Excellence globally, which is a 100 plus member team with intelligent cloud skills. I am currently based in Seattle but have had a truly global career having lived and worked in the UK, Netherlands, India, and the US. I started my career in the insurance industry prior to moving to consulting. My consulting roles involved setting up and growing Capgemini Consulting’s offshore analytics practice from scratch to a 1,000 plus team in the span of a year, data and AI pre-sales, solutioning and delivery experience, building market facing assets, and setting up and growing Avanade’s AI practice in Europe as the AI and IoT offering lead.

I believe people are at the heart of every business, and I am strongly committed to developing talent and increasing inclusion and diversity in technology. I am an experienced public and podcast speaker, blog author and mentor on IOT, Machine Learning, AI & I&D topics.

What challenges do you see for data in the year ahead that will have an impact on your clients and on the industry as a whole?

We are living in an AI-first world today given the huge impact genAI has had over our industry in the last couple of years. Every organization today needs to be an AI-empowered organization.

However, AI will only be as good as the data and information we feed it in a controlled and governed way. The importance of an intelligent data platform built on an enterprise grade foundation cannot be understated.

The main challenges will be to ensure that our clients have the right data foundation for AI, can execute AI and genAI use cases at scale (versus one off experiments) to see quick return on investments and can drive the change adoption and mindset to transform internally with genAI.

How are you developing the data literacy of a) your own organization and b) your clients?

At Avanade, we have been on a journey to develop our own data and AI literacy since 2021 when we got early access to OpenAI and launched our Digital Ethics initiative. This gave us the opportunity to prototype and learn by the time OpenAI ChatGPT launched in late 2022.

We mobilized a global genAI task force in Jan 2023, evolved this task force into a genAI hub and Center of Excellence in March 2023 and launched a strategic program called the Disrupt Program in the spring of 2023. Via this program we went on a journey to transform internally with genAI, identifying more than 200 genAI use cases and implementing multiple of these into production across HR, marketing, legal, and onboarding.

We believe that AI is people first; we spent time bringing our CEO and senior leadership to AI fluency and appointed a Chief AI Officer between April-July 2023 before launching a companywide school for AI that included organizational readiness and copilots. This journey of developing data literacy internally has helped us learn and advise clients appropriately.
