Since its founding in 2016, Cynozure has been committed to ensuring its employees feel truly valued and the business has a positive impact on all its stakeholders. At the heart of Cynozure’s philosophy, the company prioritises employee happiness, both in and out of the workplace, and it takes enormous care to ensure that each individual has access to the right tools and support needed to thrive, as well as flexible working practices.
A new approach to working
Cynozure operates with no set days or hours, and has a flexible holiday policy, reflecting the view that employees feel trusted and empowered to work in a way that works for them. The Employee Happiness Platform provides the Cynozure crew with benefits and rewards to help look after their physical, mental and financial wellbeing, providing tailored support, including a 24/7 counsellor and mental health support, an online GP, and discounts.
As a data-centric organisation, Cynozure utilises data insights to be accountable to its employees through an annual employee survey – the Cynozure Crew Engagement Survey – to get team feedback and ensure any areas for improvement are identified and actioned. The results over the last year have reflected a 90% overall satisfaction.
Holding itself accountable is core to Cynozure’s values and purpose – “Data, for a Better Tomorrow” – the company wants to inspire business as a force of good. Cynozure legally changed its articles of association last year to hold the crew accountable to making decisions that consider the impact on people and planet to the same level they consider profit impact, and in 2023 Cynozure achieved B Corp certification, making it the first consulting businesses in data to do so. In the last year, Cynozure has taken specific actions such as launching an EV Car Scheme for its employees and has changed to green hosting for its website.
The company’s commitment to social impact extends to its IMPACT programme, supporting not-for-profit organisations through advice and collaboration with the data community. Through IMPACT, Cynozure connects data leaders with not-for-profit organisations to collaborate on data challenges: from shaping data strategy, to solving data management problems, to building dashboards and data science products.
Additionally, Cynozure donates its own time, products, and services, probono to small not-for-profit organisations. Cynozure scoped a project plan liaising with one non-profit organisation and matched it with two data leaders, resulting in the organisation validating and refining its overall approach. Cynozure also offers employees a half day to take off to volunteer.
Cynozure also works to drive industry-wide, positive, and lasting change. Through its CDO Hub, Cynozure has built a global forum for data leadership and accelerated peer-to-peer learning. With over 300 members, Cynozure has delivered more than 20 CDO and Data leader events globally since January 2023.
Recognising the gender imbalance in the tech and data space, Cynozure actively supports improving this area. International Women’s Day in March 2023 saw individual pledges from the Cynozure crew which included putting a greater emphasis on recruitment, and as a result, 100% of its full time hires since January 2023 were women. The company sponsored the Women in Data UK flagship event in both 2023 and 2024, and the team regularly participates in diversity conversations, including hosting podcasts or attending events.
Another important initiative at Cynozure is ensuring the team are supported in personal and professional growth. Cynozure rolled out access to personalised coaching for the crew, giving team members the opportunity to have professional development discussions in a trusted and safe environment, underscoring its commitment to individual growth and success.
Ranked among the top 50 in The Sunday Times’ Top 100 Fastest Growing Private Companies in the UK for two consecutive years (2022 and July 2023) and #14 in the Top 50 Fast Growth List in London, the expanding Cynozure team works hand-in-hand with forward thinking organisations, developing best practice, championing the positive use of data, and making data more accessible for everyone. Last year, Cynozure launched its CLEAR framework, helping organisations to become more data guided.
Since inception, the company has served over 150 clients supported by 160 Cynozure crew and associates. Despite being an organisation that deals in data, Cynozure is an organisation with people at its heart. Every decision made is done with the happiness, motivation, and fulfilment of crew in mind, and that builds a culture where each individual feels empowered to thrive.
