The new service was built from the ground-up in-house using the GoCo group data platform, algorithms and an event-based architecture. This queues up events and message for each separate business system to drive automated communications – each of the sub-systems will evolve independently over time.
To support this, the Azure Cloud-based group data platform incorporates a data factory to orchestrate data distribution, a data lake, and a data transformation, streaming, processing and machine learning platform. This next-generation architecture can easily be adapted to changing business needs while removing legacy technology.
Weflip uses Databricks to automate the algorithm which identifies savings opportunities based on multiple data sources, including tariff options and exit fees. Once the optimum choice is identified, it is sent to the operational service to perform the autoswitch with a customer-facing interface as well as a back-end switch management solution facing energy suppliers.
Response to the service has been positive, identifying it as a potential market disruptor, and it is creating substantial value for the business. Alongside the technology, there has also been a focus on talent, culture and the right operating model to ensure success.
