Training is a large focus for Vickery and, in 2021, she designed a brand-new curriculum for EDF’s data graduate scheme. The new curriculum expanded existing resources by more than 50% and reduced the cost of training, making it more accessible for potential users.
As a diversity champion, she founded an internal Women in data and technology network that increases the representation of women in both roles within EDF and the wider community. She works closely with universities and schools to develop talent pipelines for women, working with her EDF colleagues to develop an internal skills programme enabling women to transition their careers. In the past year, Rebecca provided data mentorship and advice to three external women, enabling them to successfully receive their first jobs in data science.
In 2022, Vickery led an internal volunteer group to establish internal and external data brands to share the data work completed by EDF that can benefit the wider community. Currently, the team developing an external blog and have been booked onto several events as both sponsors and speakers.
Through her day-to-day role, the internal initiatives she has implemented and her thought leadership in the external data community, Vickery has had a significant impact within the field of data and been highlighted by colleagues as “a true champion of data at EDF and beyond.”
