Ending the pandemic by getting the world vaccinated
Transform and the UK Government Cabinet Office utilised data to improve the speed of global vaccines rollouts as well as fighting misinformation. Headed by Transform (formerly engine Transformation), the teams developed data and communication strategies and sourced the data for a global dashboard to breakdown the world’s population by global, country and regional levels into four groups: Already vaccinated; Vaccine acceptors; Vaccine rejectors and the Undecided.
Additionally, communications campaigns to increase vaccine confidence and raise misinformation awareness were created and implemented globally, increasing vaccine confidence, changing the minds of those who were undecided and moving them into becoming acceptors. The vaccine confidence dashboard and communication toolkit were presented at the G7 in Carbis Bay in June 2021 and provided to the WHO to support the roll-out programme.
The toolkits and dashboards devised by Transform and the UK Government Cabinet Office introduced extensive datasets to multiple global organisations that covered: population data with socio-demographic variables; vaccination progress; data on whether the vaccine would be split geo-demographically; regional, national and global news sentiment analysis; and social media mentions and sentiment analysis.
The global importance of this project was immense in supporting vaccine rollout and countering misinformation. It was at the forefront of placing real-time global data into the hands of analysts in a continuously evolving environment as well as highlighting the need for communication.
