The initial challenge for Munsie was that he needed to shape and build the data and analytics agenda from scratch in a rapidly-changing and totally virtual environment. The purpose of the data team is to deliver value to the business; however, the wellbeing of the team comes first. This was achieved through regular walking meetings, no-meeting days and a steps challenge in which the team have collectively walked more than 70% of the earth’s circumference. This has cemented a collaborative atmosphere within the team as well as a strong data culture across the wider organisation of 20,000 staff.
Each recruit to the data department entered an open and inclusive culture that was empowered, collaborative and fun. Diversity was a top priority when recruiting at speed and the data team is nearly 50% female, with colleagues hailing from more than 30 countries and an education background that spans apprenticeships to PhDs.
The recent CSAT score of 4.8/5.0 with 100% response rate reflected the positive difference made by data and the data team for internal customers. There is also a 96% engagement score – the highest in company history – for the data team, highlighting the achievements of a competent and well-respected data land analytics leader.
Wade launched the first data visualisation centre of excellence to bring together a dedicated team to provide accurate and trustworthy specialist advice, best practices and managed services. Additionally, Wade initiated the master data management (MDM) programme to provide a single source of truth in the next three years for data, centrally and locally that will improve operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, data security, and customer experience.
Colleagues stated that: “Wade’s goal has been to build a data function that not only delivers value to the business, but do it in a way that is ethically responsible in the use of data. It has been no small feat, but it is fair to say that the accomplishments under Wade’s leadership have set the team on a path of success, with strong foundations and enablement, paving the way for the spin out of Haleon.”
