To build a data literate organisation has been at the centre of JLR’s reimagine strategy where a data adoption roadmap has been developed to enable individuals and teams across the business to maximise the value delivered by data. The training and upskilling aspects of the strategy include a foundational data course and the opportunity to take a data analyst apprenticeship to ensure data is embraced in a secure and compliant manner.
“Impressive scale and uptake from the organisation.” – Judges’ comment
After a successful period of focus on data awareness, visualisation and analysis, the JLR team is pivoting to data literacy to unlock data value for all teams which encompasses good data behaviours and ways of working from data collection and storage, through to management and quality and analytics, AI, BI and value realisation.
“Truly impressive.” – Judges’ comment
Enterprise platforms provide access to the data needed for all roles and a 400+ champions community has been established to advocate for data enterprise wide. Great progress has been made in building awareness of data visualisation, analytics and data science and the focus has now shifted towards data governance and quality in response to recent assessments on JLR’s data maturity and feedback from the end users.
JLR recognised that training alone could not change the culture and focused on supporting colleagues in changing the way they work with, talk about and behave with data. Several enterprise-wide activities and approaches have been adopted for different audiences to engage with.
JLR’s enterprise data office and learning academy partnered up to implement a data training roadmap that touched all aspects of the ecosystem. The roadmap includes apprenticeships, bespoke e-learning courses, an engineering bootcamp for those looking to reskill into the data realm, a full data governance training programme and a future data executive leadership initiative which targets directors and their individual data literacy journeys. This has all been supplemented by a drive to improve the data culture of JLR and sharing data knowledge from all areas of the organisation which has cemented data as a cornerstone of all business operations.
