“Excellent story with business impact and wider community contribution. Well done!” – Judges’ comment
Financially, Yusuf’s contributions to JLR have supported generating £100 million in business value through mitigating supply chain issues, reprioritising operations and through the creation of visual dashboards. The tools Yusuf has worked on have highlighted inefficiencies, shown inconsistencies and served as a starting point for data governance implementation strategies. The increasing importance of data-driven decision making has been championed by Yusuf who has been able to effectively communicate the needs for data to all seniorities and areas of JLR, further driving the trust and belief in data.
Yusuf has also been instrumental in JLR’s sustainability objectives by creating a data visualisation tool that reports on waste – the first tool of its kind in JLR history. This has led to improvements in sustainability, reduced waste, improved costs per site and has further improved data quality for the organisation. Beyond this, Yusuf has led and supported various training sessions for JLR staff as part of a data boot camp, providing guidance and support to beginners on Tableau sessions and helping employees who were unfamiliar with the software.
Yusuf joined two initiatives, becoming a REACH (racial, ethnicity, and cultural heritage) and wellbeing champion in digital to represent data graduates and apprentices in early careers and give them a voice. Additionally, Yusuf has promoted careers in data by participating in a number of early careers event such as representing JLR at career shows, podcast interviews and an invitation to speak about apprenticeships at an external event with Ofqual. Yusuf has continually shared his knowledge and passion about careers in data and technology and has been a core part of JLR’s development and new era of talent.
