Jag’s leadership is defined by operational rigor, strategic transformation, and a commitment to unlocking business value through trusted data and AI.
As a data and AI leader, which traits and skills do you think matter most, and which of those have been most influential for you in your current position?
“Effective data and AI leadership requires strategic vision, business acumen, technical expertise, change management skills, and the ability to build strong relationships and trust across the organization. Leaders must be persuasive communicators who can obtain buy-in and support from diverse stakeholders, translating complex data and AI concepts into actionable business strategies.
“It’s essential to foster collaboration, drive a culture of innovation and accountability, and lead teams to turn vision into tangible results through disciplined execution. A focus on data quality, ethical AI practices, and risk management is critical as data becomes more central to decision-making.
“At Freddie Mac, the most influential traits have been building trust, forging strong relationships, and persuasively aligning teams and stakeholders around a shared strategic vision. Our data modernization success was made possible by articulating a clear roadmap, aligning diverse teams around shared objectives, inspiring confidence and commitment at all levels, and continuously demonstrating the business value of data-driven transformation through showing hard savings and measurable outcomes.
“By combining technical depth with a focus on measurable outcomes and stakeholder engagement, we have accelerated innovation, improved efficiency, and positioned the organization to respond effectively to evolving business and regulatory needs. Ultimately, it is the ability to inspire teams and lead with both expertise and empathy that has driven our success in data and AI leadership.”
Reflecting on your career, what is one non-traditional piece of advice (outside of technical skills) you would give to an aspiring data or AI leader aiming for the C-suite?
“One non-traditional piece of advice I would offer aspiring data or AI leaders is to prioritize building authentic relationships and trust across the organization. Success at the C-suite level is less about technical mastery and more about understanding people, listening to their needs, aligning data initiatives with business goals, and earning support through empathy and credibility.
“Invest time in learning the language of the business and be proactive in communicating the value of data in terms that resonate with stakeholders. In the end, your ability to influence, inspire, and unite diverse teams will be just as critical as your technical expertise in driving meaningful, enterprise-wide transformation.”
