Data literacy is a key enabler of the value and impact from data. How are you approaching this within your organisation?
I created Chaucer’s first data strategy and had version one unanimously approved by the Board. This has had a big impact on the data ecosystem and has paved the way for a data transformation programme, which is positively impacting the entire business. We are building a data culture that is encouraging more of the business users to be data curious and become more involved.
I have also embarked on an ambitious data culture and data literacy campaign in Chaucer. We have started by completing the DataIQ Data Literacy Survey and from the results have tailored phase one of a program which will be rolled out across the company.
Recently, I supported one of our reception staff to move into the data industry. She had shown an interest in data, so I supported her learning and development, and I am delighted to say she has recently joined my team as a Data Champion. She will support the data strategy and data fluency programme by communicating into the business and being the face of data. We will be upskilling her so that she can develop into a Data Analyst. I believe that she will be an amazing asset to the data community. We need to give women as many avenues as possible into the industry and to develop their skills once on board.
We also held the first ever Data Day in Chaucer, as part of our annual innovation week celebration. This was a day dedicated to data and getting our message out to the company. We had external speakers, internal activities, and team events. It really brought the company together and elevated the data strategy, culture, and programme across all departments.
