Sid Shah, VP Data & Analytics, International, Live Nation Entertainment

Sid Shah is Vice President of Data and Analytics, International at Live Nation Entertainment, where he leads data strategy and capability across a diverse, global operating landscape.

His career has been shaped by experience across multiple industries and operating models in environments where levels of data maturity, regulation, and commercial pressure differ significantly. Those contrasts have informed a view of data leadership grounded less in technology and more in decision-making, trust and organisational confidence.

Early roles in highly regulated environments highlighted the importance of strong governance, where risk management and brand trust are non-negotiable and data discipline matters as much as insight. In more consumer-facing businesses, the challenge shifted from whether data could be used to how it could be scaled without fragmentation or loss of coherence. This led Sid to champion an operating model called “accountable autonomy”, combining clear central standards with the freedom for local teams to execute at pace.

Across these contexts, a consistent lesson has been that data only delivers impact when leaders are confident using it. That belief underpins Sid’s approach today: aligning data initiatives tightly to business priorities, designing organisations that scale responsibly, and helping shift cultures from intuition-led decision-making to evidence-informed action.

At Live Nation Entertainment, Sid applies this perspective to balance global consistency with local relevance, ensuring data and analytics support both commercial performance and long-term trust across international markets.

As a data and AI leader, which traits and skills do you think matter most, and which of those have been most influential for you in your current position?

“Commercial judgement is the most important trait for effective data and AI leadership. Understanding the business context, prioritising the right problems, and recognising where data can genuinely influence the P&L matters more than technical depth alone.

“Trust is equally important. Data leaders need credibility with executives and frontline teams. In my experience, this comes from clear communication and consistent delivery – especially during periods of change.

“Organisational design is another critical skill. Effective leaders understand how to structure teams so data capabilities can scale without becoming bottlenecks. Balancing central consistency with local autonomy is often what determines success.

“Finally, the ability to simplify complexity is vital. I’ve found that controlling the narrative by translating abstract data concepts into simple, business-focused language is the only way to align stakeholders and secure the mandate to deliver.”

Reflecting on your career, what is one non-traditional piece of advice (outside of technical skills) you would give to an aspiring data or AI leader aiming for the C-suite?

“Learn to be explicit about when you are acting as a Steward of Capability and when you are acting as a Driver of Value.

“Many aspiring leaders focus heavily on building platforms or advanced solutions, assuming value will naturally follow. Senior executives, however, think in terms of investment trade-offs, risk, and return. Data leaders gain influence when they can protect long-term capability while also applying discipline to where and how data is used.

“This means framing initiatives with clear intent and an understanding of opportunity cost. Leaders who can move confidently between these perspectives, protecting the asset while driving the P&L are far more likely to be trusted at the executive level.”
