Whitman has been chief data officer for the US Census Bureau for five years where he has worked to make data as accessible as possible and to build trust in data analytics across the US. He has led a team that developed a search engine function for people utilising census data as well as working to solve issues surrounding discoverability and consolidation of mapping experiences.
Prior to joining the US Census Bureau, Whitman spent three years at Deloitte a senior associate and also worked at the Natural Hazard Research Centre where he coordinated research objectives immediately following the Darfield Earthquake and analysed liquefied displacement surfaces.
