Voice of the Chief Data Officer 2024

We´re delighted to present to our members Voice of the Chief Data Officer 2024.

This report captures the latest insights, experiences and advice shared by some of today’s most brilliant Chief Data Officers during Data Leader’s Guild think tank which took place 20-21st June just outside of Lisbon, Portugal.

As always, Guild was an exploration of the role of the Chief Data Officer in a fast-evolving environment which, more than ever, is being driven by AI advancements. It was clear, therefore, that AI needed to take centre stage this year, and over the two days the 40 Guild contributors explored the implications and challenges of strategic AI integration.

The key questions and themes you’ll find discussed in Voice of the CDO 2024 include:

The Evolution of the CDO Role

  • What is the role of the CDO in navigating an uncertain future?
  • Will CDOs emerge at the forefront of leading business transformation through data and AI initiatives or will their focus predominantly stay on the data management aspects critical to scaling AI?
  • What are the critical leadership strategies required to gain leadership buy-in and successfully advance data and AI integration?

Building the Augmented Organisation:

  • What do CDOs and organisations need to do to prepare to capitalise on AI technologies.
  • What are the key success factors to scaling AI?
  • What are the complexities of scaling GenAI and what is the hidden intelligence presenting new opportunities for operational efficiencies?

Fostering a Data-Engaged Organisation

  • How do you define a data-engaged culture?
  • What are effective strategies for executing a highly effective data-engagement programme?

Contained in the pages of the report you’ll find a wealth of examples, insights and advice from CDOs on how they are overcoming traditional barriers to get leadership and organisational buy-in and take the reins in leading transformative data and AI initiatives. It’s both inspirational and motivating to see how they are leveraging their learnings, leadership skills and technical expertise to start fulfilling the promise of transformation.

You’ll also learn from some wonderful case studies, including from Syngenta’s George Papadatos and BAE System’s Samir Patel on how they are truly making inroads on building the data-engaged culture that will enable them to thrive in the AI-driven future.

As a first this year, we also welcomed Databricks as strategic partners for Guild. Based on feedback from Data Leaders members, we wanted to bring a trusted partner at the forefront of AI and data management to share their insights, visions and experience. At a time when generative AI hype is still impacting the CDO agenda, their contributions gave the think tank tremendous food for thought for decisions they face both today and in the future.

It has been impossible to showcase all of the rich insights that the think tank members shared so openly during the event. However, we thank them all for their contributions and invite you to read, learn from and comment on the key insights captured in Voice of the CDO 2024.
